November 22, 2013 – FreightCenter continues its tradition of giving back to the local community by partnering with Feeding America Tampa Bay to donate more than 2,775 pounds of dry goods and canned foods for the hungry across West Central Florida.

More than 150 employees participated in the month-long food drive to support the hunger-relief charity. The company substantially beat its initial goal to collect 300 pounds of non-perishable food.

“No one should go hungry this Thanksgiving, or any day of the year for that matter. We are proud to contribute to such a worthy cause and show our gratitude to the people who make our community great,” said Matthew J. Brosious, CEO of FreightCenter.

The food drive kicks off FreightCenter’s third annual holiday employee volunteer program known as “Cash for Caring”. The company encourages its employees to participate in charitable activities by offering $12 for every hour they volunteer to support local non-profits. The program runs from November through January, and is estimated to provide more than 400 hours of community service.

FreightCenter selects several non-profit organizations throughout the year to provide support for, such as Feeding America, SPCA, Habitat for Humanity, Toys for Tots and more.

About Feeding America

Founded in 1982, Feeding America Tampa Bay makes a difference in the lives of thousands of people each week through its distribution to a partnership network of more than 600 faith-based and other incorporated non-profit hunger relief organizations. The food bank’s mission, “Ending Hunger, Nourishing Hope,” serves a food-insecure population of close to 700,000 residents across West Central Florida; 250,000 of those struggling with hunger in the area are children. Receiving surplus food donations from growers, manufacturers, supermarkets and organized community food drives, Feeding America Tampa Bay supplied more than 35 million pounds of food to its 10-county service area in the past year – enough to provide more than two million meals every month to those who would otherwise go hungry. Feeding America Tampa Bay is a member of the national Feeding America network.
