While we all continue to do our part by practicing social distancing, self-quarantining, and staying at home, we are also starting to feel a little restless. It’s hard being stuck in the house without the possibility to visiting friends, going to restaurants or attending parties. With spring holidays just around the corner, you might be wondering what you can do to celebrate and have fun. Don’t worry though. We have you covered. Check out these fun spring activities you and your family can do from home.
Egg Coloring Contest
You and the family might not be able to have the neighborhood egg hunt, but you can still have a good time at home. Have a family egg coloring contest. Hard boil a bunch of eggs and let them cool. Gather your family and color eggs together. You can find egg coloring kits online and in stores, just be sure to take appropriate precautions before heading to the store. You can also color eggs with food coloring. Just add a drop or two of food coloring to white vinegar and use a plastic spoon to dip your eggs.
Once your eggs are colored, you can post photos of them on your social media and have your friends choose the winner. Fun and safe!
Family Egg Hunt
Maybe coloring eggs isn’t your style. That’s ok. You probably have colorful plastic eggs in your house. Fill the eggs with candies, balloons, small toys or loose change, and hide them around your house for your kids. Who doesn’t like finding an egg filled with chocolate or coins?
Giving Back and Creating Happiness
Spring is a time for new beginnings and starting fresh. However, as we all know, there are many people affected by COVID-19. During unprecedented times such as this, people may be feeling down, sad or worried more than normal. You can brighten their day just by giving back.
Get that craft box down from the closet and create handmade cards for your at-home family members. You can also create virtual cards for anyone you want. You can send your virtual cards via email and brighten up someone’s day. This may include sending a virtual card to a neighbor, your friends, your family members, etc.
Strolls, Walks, Runs, Biking
We don’t know about you, but we have been walking a lot. Taking a walk is a great way to relieve stress, get some exercise and enjoy being out of the house. Fresh air and sunshine are great mood boosters. Again, remember to practice safe distances and stay a minimum of 6 feet apart when walking.
To make it more challenging, start counting your steps. Most smartphones have a built-in pedometer, so just keep your phone in your pocket and go. If you average 2,000 steps a day, try to exceed it by adding 10 steps a day. Keep track of your steps to monitor your progress. You can also take a bike ride or a jog through your neighborhood.
Clean and Organize the House
You’re spending a lot more time in your house than usual. You might be thinking that cleaning and organizing the house isn’t considered a fun spring activity from home, but it can help you decrease your stress and give back to those in need. Maybe you have been meaning to get to cleaning the closet. Maybe that file cabinet has been calling your name. Now is a great time clean and organize the house.
Set a time limit for one or two hours and only tackle one thing at a time. Once you finish that, take a break and do something else. Have a box or bag for items you want to donate to your local shelter or donation center. For any old files you need to get rid of, have a bag you can take to shred once things go back to normal.
You never know what you might find while cleaning. It can be fun to look at old photos and talk about the past with your family and friends over video chats, too.
