How to Ship Them Aliens

Stealing an alien is going to be easier than ever with close to 2 million people storming Area 51. But what happens afterwards? How will you get your alien and their UFO back home with you?

Airport security is a little tight nowadays and bicycles don’t really fly like in the movies. Shipping your alien and their UFO  is probably your best bet! Luckily, 3PLs have evolved to give you custom tailored shipping solutions no matter what your shipping needs are.

How to ship your alien

Everything you can think of, from a roofing nail to helicopter propellers, has a freight class and a National Motor Freight Classification (NMFC) code. These are assigned by the National Motor Freight Traffic Association (NMFTA) to classify items into groups and ensure unbiased pricing.

“Extraterrestrial Being” doesn’t have a freight class or NMFC code (yet). Carriers inspect every shipment for weight, dimensions and contents. But if your alien sits still and stays quiet, it can classify as a “mannequin” or even a “statue” instead. Modern challenges require modern solutions.

Packaging is key to a successful shipment. We recommend crating the alien. That may sound a bit harsh, but it really is the best solution. Nothing will harm your cargo and nothing will break out of a sturdy crate. Cargo that is not properly packaged could sustain damage  or damage others around it. Sometimes the carriers won’t even bother picking up a shipment if it’s not packaged well.

Packaging your alien so they can stand up vertically or giving him enough room to squat or sit down is a conversation you’ll need to have with them. Just remember, most carriers have an overlength fee for packages that are 96” or over in length. Work with a 3PL to help you find the best carrier to accommodate your unique dimensions – it will save you money.

Shipping the Big Stuff

Now, what about your alien’s UFO ship? How can a vehicle like that get shipped? Truckload freight shipping has its advantages and can accommodate such demands.

Open bed trailers often move large items like manufacturing or construction equipment. Removable gooseneck trailers (RGNs) are very low to the ground so vehicles can be driven onto them. You can hover the UFO ship onto a flatbed trailer or wheel it onto an RGN. You are guaranteed to turn some heads on the highways!

To sum it all up, there’s never just one solution to ship something. A 3PL like FreightCenter can discover shipping options that you’d never think possible and for the best rates.
