Hollister Independence Rally
Said to have been the event that gave rise to the “American Biker”, Hollister Independence Rally dates all the way back to 1947. The rally is commonly believed to be the inspiration for the legendary 1953 cult classic film, “The Wild One,” staring Hollywood’s bad boy, Marlon Brando and Lee Marvin. The cast was embellished in leather jackets and biker gear and introduced hipster biker lingo to mainstream movie audiences. The biker community and biker fashion was defined for decades to come due to the movies influence. The movie, “The Wild One” is even considered a cultural milestone and motorcyclists everywhere return once again to Hollister, California every Independence Day weekend to come together and celebrate this cultural icon. This year’s rally begins June 30 and the fun carries on until July 2.
Hollister Independence Rally always has been and always will be a free rally that welcomes any and all bikers. This rally is the largest of its kind in California and even among the top ten in the United States.
What Is There to Do for Fun?
Top motorcycle parts, accessories, and apparel vendors and major motorcycle manufacturers from across the country will be displaying and selling their newest and best gadgets and products.
Entertainment is abundant as musical headliners include Zepparella, an all-female Zeppelin Powerhouse, Journey Revisited, Caravanseri, and Savannah Blue. As Hollister Independence Rally approaches its 70th anniversary, celebrity guest has been confirmed as Erik Estrada, none other than America’s favorite lawman. Known most famously for his role on CHiP, Estrada went on to become a real cop for the Saint Anthony Police Department in Idaho.
Among the live entertainment and abundance of vendors, there will also be Poker Runs, Poker Walks, and food and beverage galore. If you’re a beauty queen you might be interested in the Miss Hollister Rally Bikini Contest. If you find yourself craving a cold one, you’re in luck as beer gardens are plentiful in the area.
Due to the city of Hollister being only 50 miles away from Santa Cruz, you can ride along Highway 1 and next to the beach area of the Boardwalk—a site to see for any biker. If you’re looking for a longer, day trip type ride, look no further than to Napa Valley wine country where there are rolling hills loaded with vines and wineries. Bikers can also head to Monterey and Carmel, both day-trip rides, but still a shorter distance than Napa Valley. The trick to avoiding the traffic is to stay on the coast and not head inland too much.
If you’re looking for a place to stay that’s relatively close to the action, check out the hotels that have vacancy close to the Hollister California area. There’s even a special price offer if you use a certain link provided by Hollister Independence Rally on their website. Offers are limited, so you won’t want to wait much longer to book your room!
