Move over Daytona Bike Week, there’s a new bike week on the block! No really – this bike week is in Daytona too and it’s even known as the “little brother” of the spring Daytona Beach Bike Week event, though we might disagree and say there’s nothing little about it. With an attendance figure as high as 100,000, it’s hard to think of Biketoberfest as little. And that’s just a dent in the surface. The true attendance is nearly impossible to count as entry is free without a ticket.
It Wasn’t Always Biketoberfest
Every year come Halloween time, Biketoberfest comes out to play in the seaside city of Daytona Beach, Florida. And it’s not located along what’s referred to as the ‘Fun Coast’ for nothing! With events like Coke Zero 400, 24 Hours of Daytona race and Speedweeks, you might be better off referring to Daytona Beach as the hub for all things fun.
But Biketoberfest wasn’t always referred to as a spin-off of every brew lovers favorite holiday. Back in 1991, when the event first became, it was referred to as a much tamer name – known as “Daytona Fall Tour”. That didn’t last long though, because in 1993 the name Biketoberfest began to catch on. And the rest, as they say, is history.
Wondering Where You Get a Name like This One?
You wouldn’t be the first one to ask that question. It certainly catches your attention. After all, is there really anything better than a cold brew and your bike? Yeah, we didn’t think so.
So, the name makes sense. It’s fitting. Biketoberfest is a celebration of fun, much like Oktoberfest and all parties involved would agree that beer is among their favorite beverage.
25 Years Bold
Just because there’s a higher proportion of choppers in attendance, doesn’t mean there’s anything outdated about Biketoberfest. This year the rally will be celebrating its 25th anniversary. But we would never say they’re 25 years old, rather they’re #25YEARSBOLD.
So, What’s All the Fuss About?
Well, have you experienced Florida weather in mid-October? It’s near perfect. Warm enough to make you want to extend your stay juuust one more day, but breezy enough that you’ll never find yourself wishing you could head back up to the cold.
With a committee committed to bringing its attendees a bigger and better event with each passing year, bringing the best vendors to the table is a rather effortless task. With vendors ranging anywhere from Biker Design/Biker Clothing to Daytona International Speedway, there’s a little bit of fun for everyone. Trust us when we say, this event is not to be missed.
And did we mention the beach? This’ll be the last chance you get to sink your toes into the sand before the snow and winter conditions start impacting your riding (and beaching) capabilities. Halfway through December and you’ll be kicking yourself for not making the trip down to Daytona Beach.
You’re Convinced, but How Will You Get There?
So, we’ve convinced you to go (yay!) But you live in the north or maybe the west or basically any other U.S. region that is far beyond a reasonable distance you’d want to travel on your bike. Hey, we’re not here to judge. We know a few bikers who might claim that “real” bikers rideto the rally. We say, have you ever had to sit stiff on a bike for more than a few hours with a bad back? Yeah, it’s not fun. And it’s not a good idea to show up to the Biketoberfest, located along theee Fun Coast with an aching back and a grumpy mood.
